I wrote a blog called Renegade Mothering for about 12 years, which makes me old and incapable of accepting the changing of times.

I’m a native Californian with four kids, two of whom are not really kids (21 and 17 years old), and I have a husband named Mac, who I’ve been with for 22 fucking years.

In 2019 we moved to The Netherlands. I miss street tacos, redwood trees, warmth, the entire Tahoe Basin, American friendliness, and my mom. I do not miss guns, trickle down delusion or that very special American stupidity known as Fuck Everybody I Gotta Get Mine. I have ceased looking for my bootstraps. We spend summers in Spain. I miss California every day of my life. I will probably never go back.

In 2018 Hachette Books published a memoir I wrote called “I’m Just Happy to Be Here,” recounting my descent and recovery from late-stage alcoholism and addiction after having children. I’m vaguely working on a second book and I write on SubStack in a newsletter called Out of Line.

I edit, mentor writers, and teach writing online and in person around the world.

I am never as out of line as I wish to be.
